Queen Esther inciting the Indians to Attack the Settlers at Wyoming.
Been enjoying looking at this blog about the great American historical illustrator Howard Pyle who is famous for his pirate and Revolutionary war pictures. This one is based on the raid of 1778 of the Wyoming Valley in the Revolution.
According to the blog
A note on the plate states, "The figure to the right is [Joseph] Brant, and the white man is [Colonel John] Butler." Pyle probably worked from this image of Brant.

ReplyDeleteI first learned of "the Queen," from reading a Joseph Altsheler book. The rock she used in her executions still exists.
