The Deerslayer is a classic narrative of frontier life and conflict in central New York during the 1740's. The most tender of The Leatherstocking Tales, this novel portrays a youthful, compassionate Hawkeye less hardened by rugged life. First published in 1841,The Deerslayer was republished in 1925 by Charles Scribner's Sons, including N. C. Wyeth's powerful illustrations.

Born in 1882, N. C. Wyeth was one of the America's greatest and most beloved illustrators of fictional literature. His gripping illustrations bring to life many treasured classics by renowned authors.
