Kirby Hall 25th anniversary

Howard Giles on his reenactment nostalgia Facebook group has noted that it is 25 years since the first Kirby Hall. This was a big multi-era reenactment event that spanned from Romans to WW2. I attended the first one manning a recruiting stall for the French and Indian war group I had started (see pic). The following year we were invited to do a display. Good times. From Don Troiani

Chasseurs Volontaires de St. Dominque, 1779. This was a corps of black and mulattoes (period term) raised on Saint Domingue (noe Haiti) in French service. 700 of them were in the campaign to capture Savannah in 1779 . Detachments of them did service on other French held Caribbean Islands until the unit was disbanded at the end of the war.  Like most French Colonial troops they wore dark blue coat instead of the white of the line regiments. Watercolor and gouache on Bristol board.
