Joseph Vernet

If you have an interest in what a French port was like during the Seven Years War - the people and how they dressed as well as the ships and their cargo then look no further than the works of Joseph Vernet - he was commissioned to make a series of studies of the seaports of France during the 1750s. 1. Do you know which ports these are? Your second illustration actually looks like Rochefort sur mer arsenal I mentioned I visited last month, and which is indeed impressive, totally renovated. If this is what this is, it was built in 1666, on the orders of Louis XIV.
