Tapabords in the 18th century

I think the first place I heard about tapabords was the excellent and invaluable tome from Canadian costume historian Suzanne Gousse. It was in there the pic below from Diderot appeared. Also this picture of a Milicien from 1722 by de la Potherie seems to show one. Claude-Charles Bacqueville de La Potherie, "Histoire de l'Amérique septentrionale: divisée en quatre tomes,"
