Someone was asking the other day about fiction from a French-Canadian perspective and this started me trawling the memory banks trying to think of something. Not much luck - maybe you know some? But anyway this story by Stevenson has a section when the main protagonist goes to New France seeking refuge as an exiled Jacobite. He also goes to India and is involved in piracy too. Pretty good going for one story. They remade this as a miniseries in 1984 with Richard Thomas and Michael York but there's not much on Youtube - a trailer for it here - I vaguely remember some scenes with Indians and so forth.
