Moise Corbet was governor of the island of Jersey in the British Channel Islands (not the state of New Jersey). Jersey is about 14 miles west of the Normandy peninsula: off the coast of France. He surrendered to a French expeditionary force that invaded the island in 1781. The expedition was in turn deated by British troops along with the Jersey Militia.
