New Orleans by Thomas Payton

 Today in History - January 8 1815

The Battle of New Orleans was fought between the British Army under Major General Sir Edward Pakenham and the United States forces commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson. The Americans defeated a poorly executed assault taking about 70 casualties, while the British suffered over 2,000, including the deaths of the commanding general, Major General Sir Edward Pakenham,
