Biloxi, Mississippi was founded in 1699 by the French. Until Hurricane Katrina, we had a recreated portion of Fort Maurepaus and a couple of stalwarts in wool marine uniforms held tours of the fort even during the hot summers by the Fort Maurepaus Society of which I was a member. Note that the area of the was later known as Ocean Springs since the 1850s.
